Seville Wedding Guide: Palaces, Patios and the Golden Light of Andalusia
Wedding Guides · Seville
Gilded altars, tiled patios, orange trees and the most cinematic square in Spain — how to plan a wedding in the heart of Andalusia.

Seville is the most romantic city in Spain, and it knows it. Moorish palaces, whitewashed patios full of jasmine and orange trees, baroque churches covered in gold leaf and a river lined with palms — every street is a set. For couples who want a wedding that feels unmistakably Spanish, with drama, colour and warmth, there is nowhere quite like it. This is what we have learned photographing weddings here.
Why Seville
Barcelona is modernist and Mediterranean; Seville is Andalusian, ornate and theatrical. The city mixes Moorish, Gothic and baroque architecture within a few streets, so a single wedding day can move from a gilded chapel to a palace patio to a garden full of palms. It is also compact: the old town, the hotels and many venues are within a short drive of each other, which makes the day easy for guests.

Where to celebrate
Palaces in the old town. Several historic palaces and noble houses open their patios and salons for private events — marble columns, tiled walls, fountains and arcades that look beautiful by candlelight.
Haciendas outside the city. Twenty to forty minutes away, restored olive-oil estates offer whitewashed courtyards, bell towers, gardens and space for 150–300 guests, with dinner under the stars and no neighbours to worry about.
Garden ceremonies. Seville's gardens are full of palms, orange trees and bougainvillea. A floral arch, a fountain and the sound of water make the most elegant setting for a symbolic ceremony.

Portraits: the Plaza de España and the old town
The Plaza de España is the city's great stage: a half-moon of brick and painted tiles, bridges over a canal and long arcades that turn every portrait into a film still. The light is best at the very beginning and the very end of the day — early morning for an empty square, the last hour before sunset for warm, golden colour. Public spaces can require a permit for professional photography; we check this with your planner in advance. Nearby, the Santa Cruz quarter and the gardens of the Parque de María Luisa give shade, orange trees and quiet corners.

When to marry in Seville
Seville is one of the hottest cities in Europe in summer, often above 38 °C in July and August, so the season works differently here. March to early June and late September to November are the best months: warm days, comfortable evenings and orange blossom in spring. Check the calendar before you fix a date: Holy Week (Semana Santa) and the April Fair (Feria de Abril) fill hotels and close streets. If you do marry in summer, hold the ceremony late, choose a venue with shade and water, and plan the party for the cool of the night — the Sevillian way.
Legal or symbolic?
Most international couples marry legally at home and celebrate in Seville with a symbolic ceremony — the paperwork for a Spanish civil wedding is long for non-residents. Religious ceremonies are possible in some churches with preparation through your parish at home. Read getting married in Spain as a foreigner for the details.

A Seville wedding weekend
- Friday: tapas in the Santa Cruz quarter or a rooftop with a view of the cathedral and the Giralda.
- Saturday: portraits in the morning or at sunset, ceremony in a garden or chapel, dinner in a palace patio and dancing late into the night.
- Sunday: a long lunch at a hacienda, with flamenco for those who still have energy.
Seville airport has direct flights from many European cities, and the high-speed train from Madrid takes about two and a half hours, which makes connections from the US simple.

In short
- Seville is for couples who want a wedding that feels intensely Spanish: palaces, patios, gold and colour.
- Palaces in town for elegance; haciendas outside the city for space and a long party.
- Best months: March to early June and late September to November.
- Avoid Holy Week and the April Fair unless you want the city at full volume.
- Plan portraits at the Plaza de España early or late, never at midday.
