Barcelona has more than 300 days of sun a year, so almost any month can work. But the month you choose decides three things that matter enormously on the day: how hot your guests are at the ceremony, what time the sun sets (and therefore when the portraits happen), and how crowded the city and the coast are. This is how each part of the season really feels from behind the camera.

The short answer

Late May, June, September and early October are the sweet spot: warm days around 22–27 °C, soft evening light, sunsets late enough for a relaxed timeline, and the sea warm enough for a day-after swim. July and August are beautiful but hot, and they suit seaside venues better than inland estates.

Spring: April and May

April is green and fresh, with wisteria on the castle walls and highs around 18–20 °C — lovely for photographs, a little unpredictable for an outdoor dinner. May is one of our favourite months: 20–23 °C, long evenings, gardens at their best. Sunset: roughly 20:30 in April to 21:15 at the end of May. Plan a cosy plan B for an occasional spring shower.

Early summer: June

The most requested month, and for good reason. Days around 25–27 °C, the longest light of the year and an evening that seems to last forever. Sunset: around 21:25–21:30, which lets you hold the ceremony at 18:30 and still have golden-hour portraits during the cocktail. Saturdays in June book first — often 14 months ahead.

High summer: July and August

Hot — 29–31 °C in the day and humid on the coast — and the city is full. Still, some of our happiest weddings have been in July: a ceremony at 19:00 by the sea, dinner under the stars, dancing in a light breeze. If you choose these months, pick a seaside venue (Sitges, Tamarit, the Costa Brava), start the ceremony late, give guests shade and water, and avoid the first two weeks of August, when much of Spain is on holiday.

Autumn: September and October

September is quietly perfect: the sea is at its warmest, the heat breaks, the summer crowds leave and the light turns golden earlier. October brings 20–23 °C days and the vineyards changing colour inland. Sunset: about 20:10 in early September and 19:20 by mid-October, so ceremonies move to 17:00–17:30. Early October is our best-kept secret for couples who want calm and value.

Winter: November to March

Mild by northern standards (14–17 °C), with clear blue days and early sunsets around 17:30. It suits intimate weddings and elopements in the city — a ceremony in a palace or hotel, portraits in an empty Gothic Quarter, dinner in a restaurant. Many country venues offer lower winter rates.

In short

  1. Best overall: late May, June, September and early October.
  2. July and August: choose the coast and a ceremony after 18:30.
  3. Set the ceremony time from the sunset, not the other way round — about two and a half hours before.
  4. Avoid early August and local holidays like La Mercè (around 24 September) if you want a calm city.
  5. Winter is ideal for intimate city weddings and elopements.

Frequently asked questions

Does it rain in Barcelona in summer?

Rarely between June and August. Short storms are more likely in late September and October, usually in the late afternoon — every outdoor venue we work at has a covered plan B.

What time should our ceremony start?

About two and a half hours before sunset: 18:30–19:00 in June and July, 17:00–17:30 in October. That leaves time for the cocktail and portraits in the best light.

Is a Friday or Sunday wedding cheaper?

Often, yes — many venues offer lower rates outside Saturdays, and in Spain a Friday wedding feels completely natural because the party starts late anyway.

Which venues are best for a summer wedding?

The seaside ones. See our guide to the best wedding venues near Barcelona.
