Most couples find this out once they start comparing wedding venues near Barcelona: the city is wonderful for a welcome dinner and portraits in the Gothic Quarter, but the weddings themselves usually happen outside it. Within about an hour you have medieval castles, historic country estates and villas on the Mediterranean. These are six we have photographed. For each one we keep two things apart: the venue details (capacity, exclusivity, distance) as published by the venues and their planners in October 2026, and what we have seen ourselves on the day. Capacities change with the layout and the season, so always confirm them with the venue when you enquire. If you are still looking for a wedding photographer in Barcelona, our work at these venues is a good place to start.
1. Castell de Sant Marçal: the castle closest to the city
A castle in Cerdanyola del Vallès, documented since the 11th century and remodelled in 1895 by the architect Gaietà Buïgas, still in the hands of the family of the Marquis of Cerdanyola.
Venue details: wedding banquets from about 70 to 450 guests. Around 20 km from central Barcelona, roughly 25 minutes by car without traffic.
On the day: the facade, the stone stairs and the gardens give completely different looks, so the wedding never feels like one location. In summer we suggest a ceremony no earlier than 18:00, once the sun is lower.

2. La Baronia: the estate we know best
A modernist manor house in Sant Feliu de Codines, in the hills of the Vallès Oriental, with stone facades, terraces and gardens looking over the valley.
Venue details: one wedding per day, with exclusive use of the estate. Usually listed for up to about 200 guests (some layouts allow more). No guest accommodation on site. About 40–45 minutes from central Barcelona, so plan a shuttle.
On the day: this is the venue we have photographed most. Wisteria in spring, stone stairs and open countryside for golden-hour portraits give a lot of variety in a small area. In June the garden falls into shade in the early evening, which gives soft, even light for the ceremony.

3. Xalet del Nin: a seaside villa near Sitges
A villa built in 1913 and restored in 2019, on the coast of Vilanova i la Geltrú, just south of Sitges. The gardens run down to the sea, so the Mediterranean sits right behind the ceremony.
Venue details: exclusive-use estate with rooms on site for the couple and close family. Published capacities range from about 180 to 250 guests depending on the layout. Around 40 minutes from Barcelona and 35 from the airport.
On the day: we have photographed several weddings here. Our favourite moment for couple portraits is the last half hour before sunset, when the light over the water turns soft.

4. Castell de Tamarit: a castle on the sea
A medieval castle on a small headland by the sea, just north of Tarragona, with the Romanesque church of Santa Maria inside its walls and Tamarit beach below.
Venue details: weddings from about 80 to 270 guests. Roughly 100 km from Barcelona; allow about 1 hour 15 minutes and plan a shuttle.
On the day: ceremonies in front of the sea and the stone walls at golden hour are what make this place. The drive is the trade-off, so most guests come by coach.

5. Masia Casa del Mar: a white masía above the sea
A historic Catalan farmhouse in the Garraf Natural Park, in Sant Pere de Ribes just outside Sitges. It sits on the hillside above the water rather than on the beach, which is why it feels so private.
Venue details: several spaces, with capacities published up to about 350 seated (some planners list it for up to 150, so confirm for your layout). Six suites on site for the couple and family. About 40–50 minutes from Barcelona.
On the day: we photographed Sarina and Daniel's Hindu wedding here. The open terraces suit large, colourful celebrations, and guests can stay in Sitges for the whole weekend.
6. The Costa Brava: cliffs, gardens and fishing villages
The Marimurtra botanical garden in Blanes, the coves of Begur and Calella de Palafrugell, boutique hotels and private villas. Blanes is about an hour north of Barcelona; Begur and Calella closer to two.
On the day: we know it best from engagement and day-after sessions: turquoise water, pines down to the rocks and empty beaches early in the morning. It suits intimate weddings more than large ones.
In short: choosing between wedding venues near Barcelona
- Want the city in your story? Sant Marçal (about 25 minutes) or La Baronia (about 40–45), close enough for a Gothic Quarter session in the morning.
- Want the sea in the photographs? Xalet del Nin, Tamarit or Masia Casa del Mar.
- Want guests to make a weekend of it? Xalet del Nin or Casa del Mar, with everyone staying in Sitges, or a Costa Brava villa for a small group.
- 150+ guests? Sant Marçal, Tamarit and Casa del Mar publish the largest capacities.
- In our experience, Saturdays between May and October book up 12–14 months ahead.
How to shortlist wedding venues near Barcelona
Most of the best wedding venues near Barcelona are historic houses with long stories of their own. Castell de Sant Marçal, for example, has been in the same family for centuries (the Cerdanyola del Vallès heritage page tells its history), while Castell de Tamarit is a medieval castle on the sea, described in the Catalan Encyclopaedia.
When you compare wedding venues near Barcelona, ask each one the same four questions: how long the transfer is from your guests' hotels, where the ceremony moves if it rains, until what time music is allowed outdoors, and where the sun sets in relation to the ceremony spot. Those answers shape the whole day, photographs included.
Frequently asked questions
Can we get married in Barcelona city itself?
Yes. Hotel rooftops and a few palaces in the Gothic Quarter host weddings, but most couples marry outside the city for space, gardens and late-night music, and use Barcelona for the welcome dinner and portraits.
How do guests get to the venue?
Guests usually stay in Barcelona or Sitges and travel in shuttle coaches arranged by the planner, leaving after the ceremony time is fixed and returning in two waves after midnight.
Which venue has the best light for photographs?
For golden hour by the sea, Tamarit, Xalet del Nin and Casa del Mar. For soft shade through the afternoon, the gardens of La Baronia and Sant Marçal. Whatever you choose, check the sunset time for your date and build the timeline around it.
Do these venues allow symbolic ceremonies?
We have photographed symbolic ceremonies at all of them. If you also want the civil ceremony on site, ask the venue directly. Read how legal and symbolic ceremonies work in Spain.
