About La Baronia

La Baronia is a modernist estate in Sant Feliu de Codines, in the hills about 40–45 minutes north of Barcelona. The house grew out of an old farmhouse and was transformed in the early twentieth century in the Art Nouveau style, with stone terraces, towers and gardens that open onto woods and valleys. The estate hosts only one celebration a day, which is a big part of why a La Baronia wedding feels private even with a large guest list.

For international couples the location is ideal: close enough to Barcelona for guests staying in the city, far enough to feel like a countryside escape. Most couples arrange coaches from central hotels, so nobody needs to drive after the party.

How we photograph a La Baronia wedding

We have photographed many weddings at La Baronia, and the estate rewards a plan built around the light. The stone façade and terraces are bright and graphic in the afternoon, so we often use editorial flash there to keep the sky deep and the couple luminous. The gardens and the woodland paths are softer and work beautifully in natural light, especially in the last hour before sunset. Indoors, the halls and the bridal suite give quiet, window-lit portraits during getting ready. We always explain in advance that the final balance between flash and natural light depends on the weather and the season.

4 essential tips for a La Baronia wedding

  • Book transport early. Coaches from Barcelona are the easiest way to bring guests to a La Baronia wedding and back.
  • Use the whole estate. Ceremony, cocktail and dinner can each happen in a different space, which keeps the day moving and the photographs varied.
  • Protect golden hour. Twenty minutes in the gardens before sunset gives the most romantic portraits of a La Baronia wedding.
  • Have a rain plan. The indoor halls make an elegant back-up, so there is no need to worry about the forecast.

Ceremony, dinner and party at La Baronia

One of the strengths of a La Baronia wedding is how easily the day moves through different spaces. Ceremonies are often held outdoors, in front of the house and its green façade or in the gardens, with the hills as a backdrop. The cocktail hour usually moves to the terraces, where guests can enjoy the views while we photograph family groups and a few portraits nearby. Dinner can be served outdoors under festoon lights on warm evenings, or in the indoor halls when the weather is cooler, and the party continues inside until late. For photographers, each change of space brings new light and a new atmosphere, which keeps the gallery varied from the first image to the last.

The guest experience

Most couples planning a La Baronia wedding turn the wedding into a long weekend: a welcome drink in the city on Friday, the wedding on Saturday and a relaxed lunch or a day at the beach on Sunday. Guests stay in Barcelona or on the coast and travel to the venue together by coach, which keeps the day simple and safe. Sharing practical information early — flights, hotels, transfers and dress code for the heat — makes a big difference for guests flying in from abroad, and leaves the couple free to enjoy the day itself.

Building a relaxed timeline

The most beautiful wedding photographs come from days that are not rushed. We usually suggest starting from the sunset time and counting backwards: portraits in the hour before sunset, dinner after dark, the cocktail hour before that and the ceremony when the sun is already softer. Adding small buffers between each part of the day — fifteen minutes is enough — keeps the schedule calm when hair and make-up run late or guests linger after the ceremony. A calm timeline is the real secret of a good La Baronia wedding: it gives us time for candid moments as well as portraits, and lets the couple actually be present with their families.

5 final notes for your La Baronia wedding

  • Light first. When we prepare a La Baronia wedding, we always look at the light before anything else: where the sun sets, where the shade falls at ceremony time and which corners glow in the evening.
  • One shared timeline. For a La Baronia wedding, share the final schedule with your planner, venue and photographers a week before the day.
  • Less décor than you think. A La Baronia wedding rarely needs heavy decoration; the setting already does most of the work in photographs.
  • The trip is part of it. Guests often tell us the journey is part of the La Baronia wedding experience — a few days of travel, food and sun around the celebration.
  • Check the calendar. If you are still choosing a date for your La Baronia wedding, ask the venue about busy weekends and local festivities in the area.

We are often asked what makes a La Baronia wedding feel different from other celebrations. For us, a La Baronia wedding is about the place itself — its history, its light and the way guests move through it — and our job is to show that honestly in every La Baronia wedding we photograph.

Every La Baronia wedding we photograph is different, and that is the beauty of the estate. Curious about the area? The village of Sant Feliu de Codines is a small town in the Vallès Oriental, north of Barcelona. For more options, read our guide to the best wedding venues near Barcelona.
